My final textual analysis will be on the movie The spirit. The spirit was released 1st of January 2009, starring Gabriel Macht and also Jamie king. The spirit is about police officer Denny colt who returns from the dead as a spirit who has to fight allt he bad in the city. This teaser trailer lasts 1 minute and 17 seconds which is longer than a normal teaser trailer would be.
Just like all the other teaser trailers the format in which it is laid out in is that it begins with the green preview, and then shows the company who were involved in the making of the movie. In this case it is Lionsgate and also Oddlot entertainment. This is done because if people recognise the institution involved in the making and have watched a movie by them before and enjoyed it, then they may trust that this movie also will be good. Also the institutions want peopple to know that the movie is theirs.
Whilst we are being introduced to the two institutions the diegetic sound kicks in. The sound that is being used is more naturalistic sounds like the wind, and lighting. This makes the opening of the teaser trailer seem scary and eary, this is pathetic fallacy.
The Oddlot entertainment shot fades out leaving us with a black screen. There is then cat sounds, then the sound of a phone ringing. This opening does well to build up suspense and also create excitement as we haven't even seen any footage from the movie.
There is then a fade in, in which we then see a spotlight with cats walking around on it, this shot is done in a high angle shot. Making the cats look small and helpless. Also we see that the trailer is in black and white. With the scenery makes it seems as if the the cats are in danger. During this long take a figure passes through the spotlight till they vanish into the darkness again. The scene then ends with a blackout which is syncronus to the sound of a door slamming.
There is then a close-up of a man who answers the phone, but the close-up is not of his whole face we cannot see the top half of his face. In which we hear our first bit of dialect which is of the man sayin "yeah" This is done to create suspense with the audience. There is then another blackout, which takes us onto our nex scene.
During this black out non diegetic music kicks in, which is a fast paced rythme.
This is followed by a series of fast cuts of this myster man getting dress. Also we are introduced to the first bit of colour from the teaser trailer. There is a close-up of the man putting on his tie. Which is used to link us into the next shot. As the wind blows the tie to the side the next shot cuts. The next shot is a high angle shot of the the man. Also the frame is tilted. This links in with the twisted nature of the movie. The shot that follows that one is a medium close-up of the mans whole face, but the mans face is in silouette, meaning that we cannot make out his features and he is still a mystery to us.
Then we see an indence written in red bold capital letter saying "from FRANK MILLER", this is the director of the movie, this is followed by another indence showing us what other movies that he has directed.
There is then an establishing shot, this is of a city, in which there is a voice over that says "my city" initially we think it is the mans as he is the only character that we have been introduced to.
There is then another close-up of the man although once again we cannot make out his featurs. The overall effect that this has is that it helps to move the plot along, it makes it seem as if he does own the city, especially as we know that he was an ex police officer.
There is then a long shot of this man doing a flip, and the only colour we still see is his red tie. This is followed by a low angle shot of his feet standing on wire. Then the camera pans alongside of him running. This is done in a extreme long shot so we see the whole surroundings. During the pan there is a voice over of who we believe to be the man.
We then get another indence of which it tells us that the movie is based on a comic book and who the comic book was created by.
There is then a low angle POV shot making the audience feel inferior to him. Also we then hear a womans screem in the background. The there are cuts of the same shot of the man in a POV but they zoom in until it is a close-up. Then there is a series of fast cuts of the man jumping around the city, as the man jumps out of the frame he jumps into the next frame.
Then the motion of the shots slow down as the man stops and we get a pan down of him. To which he says "and i am her spirit" which is the title of the movie.
The last shot we see is a low angle shot of the man jumping off of the indence of the title of the movie.
To conclude we see the title written in the same red comic style writing as the other indences. The last sound we hear is of the man saying "im on my way" This leaves the audience in suspense as they want to know where he is on his way to.
The teaser trailer ends with when the movie is due to come out which is not an actual instead it says 'christmas 2008'. Most teaser trailers do this as they dont know when the movie will be finished as teaser trailers come out when the film is still being made or edited.
